چکیده

Variance estimation for the regression estimator for a two-phase sample is investigated. A replication variance estimator with number of replicates equal to or slightly larger than the size of the second-phase sample is developed. In surveys where the second-phase sample is much smaller than the first-phase sample, the procedure has practical advantages. The method is similar in spirit to one of Fuller (1998), but is more easily applied and avoids some of that method’s difficulties. The proposed method can be directly applied to variance estimation for the double expansion estimator and the reweighted expansion estimator. In these cases, the proposed method is asymptotically equivalent to the full jackknife, but uses a smaller number of replications.

Replication Variance Estimation for Two-Phase Stratified Sampling

In two-phase sampling, the second-phase sample is often a stratified sample based on the information observed in the first-phase sample. For the total of a population characteristic, either the double-expansion estimator or the reweighted expansion estimator can be used. Given a consistent first-phase replication variance estimator, we propose a consistent variance estimator that is applicable ...

Successive Difference Replication Variance Estimation in Two-Phase Sampling∗

Successive Difference Replication (SDR) is a method of variance estimation under systematic sampling. The method has been used at the US Census Bureau for important studies including the Current Population Survey and the American Community Survey. The statistical properties of SDR are evaluated in the context of other variance estimators applicable to single-phase systematic sampling. A simulat...

Jackknife Variance Estimation for Two Samples after Imputation under Two-Phase Sampling

We propose a jackknife variance estimator for the population average from two, two-phase samples after imputation. The jackknife method has long been used to estimate and reduce bias, but has now become a valuable tool for variance estimation. We apply two different sampling methods, (simple random sampling and stratified random sampling) to derive jackknife variance estimators for the twosampl...

Semiparametric estimation exploiting covariate independence in two-phase randomized trials.

Recent results for case-control sampling suggest when the covariate distribution is constrained by gene-environment independence, semiparametric estimation exploiting such independence yields a great deal of efficiency gain. We consider the efficient estimation of the treatment-biomarker interaction in two-phase sampling nested within randomized clinical trials, incorporating the independence b...

Resampling Variance Estimation for a Two-Phase Sample

Two-phase sampling is often used in a wide variety of surveys. Variance estimation from a two-phase sample has been a subject of active research. The re-sampling method of variance estimation has been used for this problem. However, the method confronts a challenging problem when the first phase sampling fraction is high. In the extreme (but not uncommon) case some first-phase strata are take-a...
